Mother’s Day – Mac mini

Mum told me she would like to have a simple machine (together with my old ACD) in her room, so that she can browse the internet for news and so on. I immediately thought of Mac mini. After looking for the 2nd-handed one (and indeed I have bought one, sadly need to return it over), at last I decided to buy her a new one.

It’s tiny and cute. All family members love it so much.

Start the power -> join WIFI. Internet is up in 2 minutes (should have been faster if I remember the mac address filtering security).

As my MBP’s iTune library is kept shared, the new mac member is already “ready” to play songs/movies once it started. Videos streamed over the intranet smoothly. Everything just works seamlessly. No extra configuration required even for Front Row in sharing music/video library. This is the greatest experience ever in my PC life. My Dad feels great about that too.

Luckily able to buy it in 12-month installment, otherwise I should have been bankrupted.

Happy Mother’s Day.

MacHeist updated – 12 apps bundled

MacHeist - 12 apps bundled

As usual, MacHeist bundles a bunch of mac softwares and sells in US$49. Candidates this time is not attractive though IMO, except one which is the Overflow.

Overflow is an application designed to quickly launch applications, open documents, or access folders while reducing the number of items needed in your Dock. Anything you want can be added to the Overflow interface, making it accessible through a few simple mouse clicks or keystrokes.

It reminds me that OSX doesn’t categorize applications by default. You may manually add them to different folders but is that too stupid? and Overflow has provided a more flexible and usable interface for managing ad-hoc groups, with things more than applications. Quite nice to have, especially for those people who do not use QuickSilver.
